Letters to Our Junior High Selves

12/27/11

Dear 14 year-old Moriah,

You are probably wondering how you got a letter from you future self, and frankly I'm wondering that too. Anyway,  now that I am older and wiser (somewhat) I feel the need to impart my knowledge to you. I know right now you look in the mirror and think you are pretty hot stuff, but trust me-when you lose the headgear and braces, remove that pesky mole by your nose, and grow into your enormous size 11 feet you'll look even better. I'm not saying you will look like Madonna by any means, but you'll grow into what Heavenly Father gave you. I know that you think putting a different colored ribbon in your hair everyday is the trendy thing to do, but it is so not you. Neither are those flair jeans with tight Beatles t-shirts. I do admire you though, because you might not know it yet but this year you will meet some people who will become some of the best friends you will ever have in life. You will also tell a boy you like him and then he will never talk to you again. Don't worry, he'll move after next school year so you can stop hiding when you see him in the hall. You know how you want to go to fashion school in Portland? Well, you won't do that, but you will visit Portland someday and fall in love with it. I know right now you are probably feeling down because no one takes you seriously when you saying you are going into fashion. Don't listen to the teachers who tell you it is just a phase, or the boy who tells you that you could never have your standards and be in that industry, or when Dad tries so hard to get you to go to the university where he works. You'll be angry and downtrodden for awhile, but know that all of their hearts are in the right place and they will all come around. Don't ever doubt yourself or your dreams. Maybe I shouldn't give away this much of the future......but if you keep working hard you may or may not get into the #2 fashion institute in the nation. You know how Mom boosts you up when kids make fun of your outfits and starts a fashion portfolio for you? Well look at yourself through her eyes. We both think you are pretty great.

Love Always, Your Future Self

P.s. You might want to get in the habit of checking your teeth before you go to school or you might just go to school that year with a kidney bean shell covering your front tooth. And your friends won't tell you it's there. And you'll smile at your crush. True story.

Future self on the way to fashion institute

Hey you cute little cheerleader Logan!                                                                                      12/29/11

So I am glad that you get to experience what it's like to be around the top girls in the school during cheer practice, because in a lot of cases, that is why you are who you are. You decide that you don't want to get crazy with boys, drugs, and hate your parents like SOME of those girls do.You may or may not realize that being a cheerleader is the right path for you. But next year in 9th grade, you and Rachel have a blast!! people say having one friend is boring, but you guys rock the school and make a journal of your daily lives with awesome pics and hilarious stories. I still look through it :) You start to experiment with fashion and develop a style that is all yours, and you love it!! You get an awesome group of friends including Moriah, and you will keep them forever and love your relationships with them. You may or may not have your heart broken by a super attractive boy, but it is SO for the better. He isn't your type anyway! go after the boys that make you laugh and that you can dress how you like and feel beautiful around. Find someone like Noah and Will. Nicholas Sparks writes the best books. You have a really hard time deciding what college and career you want to have/go to. But you do love to travel and experience new things. Appreciate what your parents and siblings do for you. Be the one that will take time to hang out with your little brother, always make time for the important people and BE KIND and BRIDLE YOUR TONGUE!!! you will have a tough time with that, but it will help you a lot to keep your mouth shut!
I love you and admire the humor you have developed. Keep your standards high.

Love, Future Logan

Dream of travelling, it always helps me get through everything :) You will travel a lot soon!
I'll catch up with you later- The Older Logan

We have both changed since junior high, but we will always be the spunky, opinionated girls we were.

It's true. We are officially separated. Moriah is back in California and Logan is in Idaho. We are now prepared for constant texts and Sunday phone calls.

Love Your Partners-in-Crime, The Friendship Addicts

This funny grandma has us laughing. She is just so happy, yet hate everyone. Maybe that will be us someday.
